A bunch of useless crap

This morning I rode my bike to the Post Office in order to purchase and mail a money order to a gentleman in New York from whom I am purchasing two old Gillette razors. One is a 1957 Super Speed, and the other is a 1960 Fat Boy adjustable. It seems that the Post Office has changed their service desk hours and now don't open until 10:30. Geez, even better than banker's hours.

Since I had about 30 minutes to kill I decided to peruse one of our local antique shops about a block away. Inside I found a glass case with a pretty impressive collection of old straight razors, double edge safety razors, and shaving brushes. The lady wasn't very knowledgeable about the items but was more than happy to open tha case and allow me to paw through the items.

Most of the razors were in less than good condition but I did happen upon one 1960 Gillette Super Speed that was in perfect condition and looked brand new even though the plastic case itself has a few cracks. The price tag indicated $12.00. That's not a bad price for one in that condition. I bought it.

Once I finished my business at the post office I returned home with my prize. I sterilized it, loaded a Feather blade in it, and lathered up with some of that wonderful lime shave cream. I can now see why these razors are so popular among razor collectors. While not the most aggressive razor in the world it has a very good feel in the hand with great balance, and delivers a darned good shave.

I will likely be using the SS as my daily shaver now and save my Merkur Futur, which is far more aggressive, for those occassions when I want to get a truly BBS (baby butt smooth) shave.

Sorry about the poor image quality. My good camera is in the truck. Best I can do with the webcam.

Yeah, it is nice to find some little treasure here and there.
