A bunch of useless crap
Published on October 9, 2006 By MasonM In Blogging
I have been giving this a great deal of thought today. I am a person who despises rudeness and yet I have been rude to a member of JU simply because I feel that he makes a fool of himself. Upon reflection I realize that it is his right to make a fool of himself if he so chooses, but it is not my right to be rude to him. Simply put, I was wrong and regret certain comments that I have made on his threads.

I feel that people can disagree with each other, or choose to ignore each other, but one crosses the line when they resort to rudeness and personal insults. It is uncalled for and beneath contempt. I am guilty of behaving in a manner of which I strongly disapprove and honestly regret my poor behavior with regard to this blogger. It is highly unlikely that I will ever agree with this person but it is my responsibility to disagree in an acceptable manner.

From this point forward if I feel that I can't respond to any blogger's articles or comments without resorting to such ungentlemanly behavior I will simply not respond at all. I will not resort to name calling or insults as these things are beneath me. Polite debate and even humor are far more acceptable in my opinion and will be my rule of thumb from this point forward.

*applauds*

Bravo Mason, good for you. Now, here's hoping others will take a leaf out of your book.

Anywho...

Why waste the apology?  I'm sure that whatever comments you made were well deserved.  If not for that particular article, then for the complete collection of his works.

Either way, don't stress over it at all.  Ignore his articles (which is still the best approach for the most part), but don't worry if you see something so inflammatory that you decide to respond.  That automaton makes his life of putting out the most inflammatory stuff he can so that people will "tune in" to his articles where he gets yet another opportunity to hawk his worthless fiction that he tries to pass as world saving prose.

I give you props for being man enough to apologize, but I think it's a complete waste given the subject you seem to be talking about.

Thank you.

I have to accept responsibility for my own behavior regardless of what I think of what someone else posts. As someone who finds rudeness to be quite unacceptable my being rude is hypocritical.

While I can't control what someone else does, I can control what I do and hold myself to a higher standard.

Something I realized long ago, so I stopped commenting on his, or even reading them. We control our actions, and when we let others goad us, we give up that right. I chose not to give it up or be goaded.

While I haven't seen the thread you're talking about nor know who you mean,  I admire the gentleman you are.

Owning one's behavior is admirable and apologizing for remarks makes you an even taller man

Good going Mason

You know, this statement is the most telling and the one I most admire. Well said... It is a pity a lot more people don't think like this.

Thanks. I feel that it's the truth and am quite sincere here.

Proud of you M! It takes a big man to admit he's wrong and say he's sorry. Especially men in general! Kudos!

i think what you say is admirable.

1 point, remember, 1 person's "statement of fact" is an insult to another. how one reads something, whether they wrote it or it was penned by another, it's sure to be read differently by people with a different point of view. sometimes insults are just that, and everyone is guilty of that from time to time, but when i read "wars" that i am not directly involved in, a lot of times you can see where things were misread, or misinterpreted, then misresponded to, then all hell breaks loose...this medium loses a lot of context traveling out in the electronic realm, lol's and emoticons can't ever really accurately reflect how things is said, let alone what. sometimes there's no substitute for hearing the voice, or seeing the facial expression or demeanor of the speaker.

but i do think your statement is admirable. but being a realist, i don't see it as plausible for an indefinite period. someone gets under everyone's skin sooner or later. it's part of the blogosphere imho.

okay I will join this lets compliment Mason thread - Good for you Mason! Well done Mason, pat on the back Mason hehehehhe

Sorry I am being facetious now, it is just reading all those compliments!

Seriously though

I saw the post you made and I did think it was out of character for you, I raised my little eyebrow!

As someone who finds rudeness to be quite unacceptable my being rude is hypocritical.

This is the truth of the matter. Good for you for recognising that in yourself and setting the record straight. It costs nothing to apologise.

HOWEVER! You are taking away his fun! He loves all the flack he gets otherwise he would stop posting or post about somehting else. So your apology is probably wasted on him.

Especially men in general!

oooh sexist remark!

No matter. A person is not under any obligation to accept or even acknowledge an apology. That is entirely their choice.

From my perspective, I was rude and insulted this person publicly so only a public apology is proper or acceptable.

I'm not perfekt (although I'm damn close ) and did not post this for compliments. It is what it is.
