I've been considering buying a usb thumb drive a.k.a flash drive for some time. At first they were more expensive than I thought they should be and passed on them. I've been watching the prices come down as storage capacity has come up. Just a few months ago a 1GB thumb drive was about $100. I just bought one today for $44.
I have to say that I really like it. Travfer speeds are super quick. I was able to sync the personal files between my laptop and desktop very quickly using the thumb drive. I normally do this by networking them, but I just wanted to see how quickly it could be done using an external medium.
I'm going to pick up another one and install a small Linux system on it (Knoppix) with some recovery tools. It'll come in handy as I am often helping people fix problems on their computers and keeping my recovery tools on a thumb drive would be a lot handier than keeping it all on a cdrom as I am currently doing.
I love technology.
When it works.
