A bunch of useless crap

I am once again in the Carolinas. I just put off two stops around Columbia, SC and am on my way to Wilmington, NC for my final stop, a pavement roller going to an equipment rental place. They close at 5:00PM Eastern time. I should just make it. I'll get rolling again as soon as I finish my breakfast.

When I logged on I saw a message from the Wireless service provider at this chain of truckstops saying that beginning next month they are putting a 20GB cap on the service and if you go over that you have to pay an additional 10 bucks. As the service has been sold on a time basis (30 days at a time) I feel they're changing the deal mid-stream. I informed them that when my service expires I will not renew nor will I be stopping at their chain and spending money after that point. Screw them, there are way too many other options out there to put up with this greedy move on their part.

I did not realize they were charging.  So many places give it out for free these days.  I know the airports do.  I was getting emails from my wife in Dallas and London, and in fact right here in RIC.

I ocassionally run across a small truckstop that provides free wifi, and rest areas in some states have an hour of free access, but all of the chains charge for their service. I don't mind paying for having access but I object to their changing the terms and placing a cap on use.

I'm considering getting a Sprint wireless card or something similar, or just going ahead and getting a satellite dish and satellite modem.

Aint that the kicker?! They do that because they see the use it's getting. I don't blame you one bit and applaud you for taking a stance!

What's odd is, even if they charge, you'd think they would want to give you the best bang for your buck. After all, you're already spending a bazillion dollars there on fuel, meals, and other assorted items.

They'll probably wind up losing money over this deal, is my guess.

Exactly. I normally plan my stops so that I have access while I'm parked. While there I normally spend money on other things such as food, drinks, etc. I informed them that once my service expires I won't spend another dime in their places. I hope others do likewise.
