A bunch of useless crap

When I'm on the road I wear what I call my trucker clothes. Inexpensive jeans, tee shirts, casual shirts, cargo shorts, etc... Why wear more expensive clothing to just get them ruined working around grease, rusty chains, and crawling around on assorted machinery and stuff? Don't get me wrong, I don't wear worn out clothing with holes in them, but some of my work clothes do have the random grease stain and such even though they are clean. I still present a better appearance than many of the guys I see out there who basically look like bums, but I don't exactly dress up either.

When I'm home from the road I wear my nicer, more expensive clothing. It feels good to be able to wear nicer clothing after a few weeks of work clothes. Civilized might be a good word. It may seem a bit silly but wearing nice looking clothing makes me feel a little bit better and I like presenting a nice appearance. If I wear shorts at home, they are of good quality and are worn with a nice polo shirt or something similar. If I go cycling, I wear appropriate clothing for the ride but always of good quality.

Today after showering and shaving I put on a nice pair of khaki slacks, a dark blue polo shirt, and a nice comfortable pair of black dressy casual shoes. This, along with my khaki colored Panama hat makes for a pretty nice casual look and is still quite comfortable. Going out in the hot Florida sun without a good hat is less than a good idea in my opinion. Besides, I have always been in the habit of wearing a hat of some kind when outdoors. Kind of old fashioned, but I don't feel properly dressed without a hat.

I feel good and like to think I look good as well. Too bad I just don't have anywhere to go today. My cash level is low until I make it back to the office to pick up my paycheck. (My own fault for not getting my paperwork turned in on time) There's really nothing much to do around here today anyway. I thought about taking a walk into town, or riding the bike into town, but am still somewhat tired from the road and just don't feel like that much exertion today. It's days like this that make me start thinking about buying a car. It just seems like a terrible waste of money considering how little I would actually use it.

I did take a short walk around the neighborhood, stopping by my mother's for a short visit and to pick up my mail. It's a beautiful day although the clouds are starting to build from the heat and I expect we'll be seeing an afternoon shower before much longer.

I need the rest anyway, and just chilling out at home feels pretty good, but it would be nice to have something to do. I'm not bored exactly, just feeling like doing something and not really sure what. Ever had days like that?

giggling in complete understanding........

yep,  a lot of them!

If a car is something you wouldn't use that often,  how about a rental??  I don't know what the cost of one is,  so maybe it's something that wouldn't be worthwhile?

Sometimes getting to a nice restaurant,  and/or a movie is good.

P.S.  Happy Sunday to you!

Thanks Trudy. Most rental companies these days require a credit card. Cash doesn't cut it with these folks any more and I refuse to own a credit card.

Lately I have been thinking about getting a prepaid Visa card for online purchases and things like that, so maybe that would work.

Not a bad suggestion really. I just hate spending thousands of dollars on a car I would maybe use 3 or 4 times a month, but it would come in handy at times. Maybe I can find an old beater to keep around for those times when I don't feel like riding the bike.

I took another stroll a little while ago. I wandered over to the used car lot across the highway from where I live and just examined what vehicles he has on the lot. They're closed on Sunday so I was free to examine without being hassled.

It just seems obscene to me the prices on cars these days. The last one I owned I bought a year old for $10,000. It was the Geo Tracker I wrecked the day after Christmas 2004.

There wasn't a single vehicle on that lot under $15,000. I know, for a car these days that isn't all that much (I remember paying $30,000 for a Mercedes a number of years ago) but these days I'm just not willing to spend that much money on a car.

I think I'll put away a grand or so every month until I have enough to pay cash for something reasonably decent. It shouldn't take too long. I don't need anything extremely expensive. I've seen a few used Jags one can pick up for around 10 grand, and some used economy cars for 5 grand or so which is more in line with what I want to spend for a part time car.

My Dress (given that I get the oils from diodes) is a bit more formal.  Collar shirts and Khakis.  But I do like to dress up when the occassion warrants.  Like Weddings and parties (about twice a year - either or).

Over the last week, it has been t-shirts and shorts.  And both only last a day out in this humidity!

If you are bored, I got some recreation in my back yard for you!

I'm never that bored.

I know the sort of days you're talking about, Mason. I long for them, actually. It seems when the weekend rolls around, I've got chores, band rehearsals, friends to visit, friends visiting, things to do for my wife, etc. I'm not complaining, mind you, I like being busy. But it would be nice to have a weekend where I get to do exactly what I want in my own time.

Oh yeah, like you, I like to look good and try to wear a hat outside, particularly in summertime.

I like to keep busy too, but it is nice to just relax at times.
