When I'm on the road I wear what I call my trucker clothes. Inexpensive jeans, tee shirts, casual shirts, cargo shorts, etc... Why wear more expensive clothing to just get them ruined working around grease, rusty chains, and crawling around on assorted machinery and stuff? Don't get me wrong, I don't wear worn out clothing with holes in them, but some of my work clothes do have the random grease stain and such even though they are clean. I still present a better appearance than many of the guys I see out there who basically look like bums, but I don't exactly dress up either.
When I'm home from the road I wear my nicer, more expensive clothing. It feels good to be able to wear nicer clothing after a few weeks of work clothes. Civilized might be a good word. It may seem a bit silly but wearing nice looking clothing makes me feel a little bit better and I like presenting a nice appearance. If I wear shorts at home, they are of good quality and are worn with a nice polo shirt or something similar. If I go cycling, I wear appropriate clothing for the ride but always of good quality.
Today after showering and shaving I put on a nice pair of khaki slacks, a dark blue polo shirt, and a nice comfortable pair of black dressy casual shoes. This, along with my khaki colored Panama hat makes for a pretty nice casual look and is still quite comfortable. Going out in the hot Florida sun without a good hat is less than a good idea in my opinion. Besides, I have always been in the habit of wearing a hat of some kind when outdoors. Kind of old fashioned, but I don't feel properly dressed without a hat.
I feel good and like to think I look good as well. Too bad I just don't have anywhere to go today. My cash level is low until I make it back to the office to pick up my paycheck. (My own fault for not getting my paperwork turned in on time) There's really nothing much to do around here today anyway. I thought about taking a walk into town, or riding the bike into town, but am still somewhat tired from the road and just don't feel like that much exertion today. It's days like this that make me start thinking about buying a car. It just seems like a terrible waste of money considering how little I would actually use it.
I did take a short walk around the neighborhood, stopping by my mother's for a short visit and to pick up my mail. It's a beautiful day although the clouds are starting to build from the heat and I expect we'll be seeing an afternoon shower before much longer.
I need the rest anyway, and just chilling out at home feels pretty good, but it would be nice to have something to do. I'm not bored exactly, just feeling like doing something and not really sure what. Ever had days like that?
