I was finally able to get rolling at sunrise this morning after being awakened around 4:00am by a loud crash and boom as lightening struck the truckstop's power pole. I made sure the building was burning down or anything else that might require me to move my truck, went back to sleep, and got up in time to have coffee before sunrise.
I was doing quite well too. I made it through TN without any problems, and made it through the first two weigh station in GA without much more than just having thew check my permit. And then came the third and final weigh station in GA, almost to the FL line. She checked everything related to the permit; heighth, weight, width, tractor license plate number, and then...the trailer license plate number. Oops. It seems that the permit had the wrong trailer license number on it.
I never bothered to check it because the "oversize load" sign covers it up anyway and, until today, nobody at the weigh stations bothers to lift the sign to check it either. But she did. And she promptly shut me down on the spot telling me the loaad couldn't leave until I had a correct permit.
So, I dropped the trailer there at the weigh station and bobtailed here to the truckstop. I called my office and advised them of the situation. Turns out our computer had an incorrect plate number assigned to that trailer. I gave him the correct information and, since it was already 6:00PM in GA, agreed to wait here at the truckstop until a new permit could be ordered tomorrow morning. Like I had any choice.
So I am once again sitting instead of running. This has turned into the load from Hell all thanks to permit problems. By rights I should have had this thing delivered Monday and spent the 4th at home instead of in some truckstop in KY. Now, if I'm lucky and don't run into any more problems, I should make it home Friday afternoon and at least have a weekend off.
But at this point I'm not holding my breath.
