A bunch of useless crap
Published on May 22, 2006 By MasonM In Blogging
I'm back in WI. I picked up a fire rescue truck today that I'll be running down to Charleston AFB in SC and will be leaving out tomorrow morning once the permits arrive (it's over sized). I've been feeling badly since Friday, not sure if I ate some bad food or have a stomach flu, but have definately been under the weather, so I got myself a room for tonight to get some rest.

After checking in to my room I wandered over to Applebys to try and eat a little bit and drink a couple of beers in the hopes they might settle my stomach. Yeah, I'm one of those strange people for which beer can actually settle an upset stomach.

When I sat down at the bar I noticed that there was a different bartender working than the one I was used to seeing. She seemed nice enough and I ordered a beer. After a few minutes I spotted the young lady who is normally working the bar when I visit; she was waiting tables.

She spotted me and came running over to give me a big hug. She told the on duty bartender that I was "the man" and that she should take good care of me. She also explained that on a couple of nights a week she waits tables instead of working the bar but since it wasn't busy she'd be back over to talk to me.

I have to admit that it felt pretty nice to have an attractive young lady less than half my age make such a fuss over me. She made a point of coming by and chatting with me several times in the short time I was there, and always making a point of touching my arm, putting her hand around my neck, or otherwise making physical contact while we talked.

Our conversations were lighthearted for the most part, except for when she was asking my advice about college, and it was a lot of fun. She even talked to me about her boyfriend, her parents, and life in general. Oh, and she loved my new ugly floppy blue hat. While someone her age knows little about the real world due to a simple lack of experience and has some rather cute but naive ideas about life, she was a lot of fun to talk with. A nice distraction for a time.

While I have no false beliefs regarding my physical appearance or age, it is nice to have someone act happy to see me and want to make a point of spending a little time with me. For a while I even managed to forget about my upset stomach for a little while.

And how much did you tip her so she wouldn't ever forget you? lol. I guess it's kind of like Cheers, a place everyone knows your name. It is nice to feel welcomed and liked. I hope you're feeling better. Are you still doing the vegetarian thing?

You have a point there as I always tip well for good service although since she wasn't waiting on me tonight I didn't tip her at all. But point taken

I'm still feeling a bit rough but I'm sure it'll pass.

As for the diet, I am trying to stick to veg as much as possible, but it isn't as easy out on the road as it was at home.

Thanks, hopefully the worst of this bug has passed.

While it would be flattering to the ego to have someone so young have a "crush" on a middle aged fart like myself , I'm realistic enough to know that she's just one of those extra-friendly types towards people she likes. At this point, I'll settle for being liked.

It is all those veggies you are eating!  I got it last week - and other than some fish, that is the only food I have been eating.

As for the girl, she is just reflecting your own personality.  It is fun to be around nice and fun loving people, so she likes being around you.

These days I would say it's nice just to be acknowledged! Nothin' I hate worse than to go into a business to spend MY money there and be ignored and taken for granted. No, I'm not sayin' I need my butt kissed (althought that would be a nice touch! -JK!) but a simple acknowledgement or nod that I exist.

Good article...

Mason I have some fond memories of Applebees myself and a woman I knew there named BLOODY MARY! buwhahahahahaha.

I am so glad she is friendly toward you. I worry you get lonely out on the road...maybe that's me projecting my idea of what its like....but I am so happy to hear you are not only recognized but HUGGED.

Made my day.

I've found Oriental or Indian restaurants are the best for veg cuisine, although finding them close to the interstate can be tricky!

Must be something. This bug has been going around, I;ve run across several people who've had it. But then, obviously you've run across it too.

Yeah, she's just a=one of those fun people. Myself, I just take life as it comes.
