A bunch of useless crap

I delivered the 6 generators here in Morehead City, NC today. What a job! The generators all went to pumping stations around the area to power them in case of power failure during a hurricane. These pumping stations were not built in spots with a mind to large trucks getting in a out of them. The crane, while not as long as my rig, also had a lot of trouble getting in a out of these places.

The next to last spot was especially bad. So bad in fact that both I and the crane operator refused to do it. We would have had to park across a busy road from each other and then the generator would have to be lifted across the road. And that was assuming we could situate ourselves to stay out of the phone and power lines.

We told the contractor that there was no way we would do it and that we would put the unit off at the last location and he would have to get a small lift truck to move it back to the location and set it on the pad. He agreed as he really didn't have any choice about it. No means no.

Anyway, it took most of the day to get them all lifted off and set in place. As there are no truckstops in this backwater place, and dispatch hasn't yet found me another load, I let them know that I was renting a room for the night so I could shower and rest, and I also let them know that they are paying for it LOL.

I was nice and didn't get the $82 room at the Holiday Inn, opting instead for the $62 room at the Days Inn. The Days Inn also has wireless internet service, comfortable rooms, and all that. They just don't have a restaurant or bar.

But there's a nice sports bar right next door.

Sports bar?  Moorehead City?  Girls!

I did not realize you had that much authority, but I applaud you for using it and your common sense.  So how was the drive?  At least the weather was perfect!

When it comes to safety, as the driver of the rig I have the final say and Federal law back me up on that one. I have a perfect safety record over the course of a million miles to date and don't plan to change that now. (I hit my million mile mark on this run)

Actually, I got a room in Havelock, NC (about 10 miles East) as none of the hotels in Morehead City had truck parking. I just returned from an initial recon of the sports bar. All the bartenders are 20-something young ladies. I drank a couple and returned for a shower and change of clothes before going back in a little while.

Should be fun.

Guess I"m late getting here,  just wanted to mention that my older's sister's ex-husband used to smoke pipes too,  and I LOVED! the aroma of the Cherry tobacco he used.  I remember that slightly sweet aroma combined with his English Leather after shave.

You with this vanilla maple pipe are bound to intrigue the ladies   have a great time young man!

Here you are in my backyard ( course you probably ran up Hwy 70 coming off I-40) too bad you couldn't find parking in Morehead...lots of great time killing possibilities on the waterfront ( Key West Grill best Margarita, Sanitary Seafood, Rapps...damn, I can't get back down there until Memorial day ) The Maritime Museum in Beaufort is great as well as watching the Charter Boats come in at 4;45 every day...

When you go over that maze of bridges in New Bern, look to the left...I'll spend my summer over there ( it's actually 30 miles to the left, but the view is the same ) Scout Camp starts in 4 weeks....( storing sunblock and bug spray as I type this )
