A bunch of useless crap

I spent a few bucks today and bought the Lord of the Rings collection and the first two seasons of the X Files. What can I say, this kind of stuff appeals to me. Anyone else like these?

Big X-Files fan.

Way back when I got free tickets to the movie just for test driving an Intrigue. I used to buy the episodes as they came out on tape (tape!), but I've since lost my collection. Sunday nights are just not as cool w/o X-Files (although I stopped watching when David Duchovny left, famously saying that he would only do the show if they filmed it in his backyard).

Got a favorite X-Files episode?

(My husband and my boys love LOTR, btw)

Never an X-Files fan, I intentionally stayed away because I knew I'd become emotionally invested.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOTR movies, though. Won Best Picture for a reason. Best trilogy ever. Watch and enjoy, my good travelin' man.

I'm not sure I could pick a favorite X Files episode. I always enjoyed the show. I think I have every episode memorized :: Serious LOTR fan.

This LOTR boxed set is the special extended dvd version. It contains a lot of scenes that were cut from the theatrical release. I've been watching the first one and can't believe some of the scenes they had cut out.

I've been watching the first one and can't believe some of the scenes they had cut out.

First, I am like Singrdave.  Never got into X-Files, not even now that it is on the SciFi channel.

But I do know some of the scenes they cut out of LOTR - Tom Bombadill!  You just sold me on getting that set!

Some of the cut scenes I can understand as they don't really progress the story, but many of the cut scenes do progress the story and maintain continuity. They fill in many of the "jumps" that took place in the theatrical version.

Favorite X-Files: any of the two with that stretchy guy who ate people's livers every 30 years. Toombs is the name of the character, I think. Very creepy episode. The one where Mulder and Scully are on a version of "Cops" was also good. Anything after Mulder left is a no, as well as pretty much anything from the last Mulder season.

I enjoyed the LOTR movies, but they just didn't have that same sense of wonder the book had for me. Maybe I will enjoy versions with the deleted scenes included because the jumps in the movie irritated me.

I loved the X-files between that show and my friends it made hgih school bareable. I like the last two LOTR movies, I wasn't so much into the first. I know, I'm a peasant

Totally loved both X-Files and LOTR. Funny, my girl and I just zipped through season 1 last week, and it was great! I forgot how funny it was, not just spooky. "Lost" reminds me a bit of X-Files, too.

You got me on both counts. I don't watch as much X-Files as I would like, but I am undefeated at LotR trivial pursuit. I even let others cheat... I have to answer every question on the card to win. And I still win every time.

(I will admit that a healthy knowledge of the books helps. I've read them all, including the other histories. I've even read Tolkien's letters. Jeez, can anyone spot the dork?)
