This was inspired by a thread I read on a forum which has a large number of PC folks who attacked a member for making a humorous comment they decided was somehow racist even though it was a comment in the context of the conversation and was, in my opinion, in no way racist. What follows is a portion of my comment on that thread:
The PC crowd today seem to be entrenched in a mirror image of Mccarthyism. They seem to see evil offenders everywhere and are so focused on their campaign and take it so seriously that they can't see the simple humor in life. Life is short, enjoy it while you can.
The people involved in the Salem witch hunts, those involved with routing out the commie menace, and the modern day PCists all seem to have one thing in common; a total lack of sense of humor. Every single person, thought, and statement are suspect and must be measured against their particular yard stick and in no way can ever, ever be taken at face value or even in context lest some evil offender escape. They are living stereotypes in their own accord.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
The fact that there are so many different types of people all with their own viewpoints and methods of expressing themselves is what keeps this world an interesting and fun place to live, work, and play. It would be a very boring place if everyone thought and behaved in exactly the same way as everyone else.
I truly feel sorry for those people who take the world, life, and themselves far too seriously to enjoy life and the simple pleasures it presents. Laughter is one of the greatest gifts we have and should be enjoyed amply at every opportunity.
But this is all just my opinion, and it's possible I could be wrong.
But I doubt it.
