Ok, today kept in theme with the week so far as things didn't go exactly as planned. I got up early, hit the lumber yard for the boards I needed for the load I was to pick up. Then I went to the welding shop where I bought some over priced pipe stakes, and proceeded to the place where I was to pick up the steel pipe headed for Utah.
When I got there I spent about 30 minutes getting checked in and directed to the yard where I was to load this pipe. The guy there took one look at my paperwork and another at my stepdeck trailer and said "I can't load this on that trailer". It turns out the pipe I was to load was 45 feet long and the bottom deck of my trailer is only 40 feet long. No way to shrink the pipe or stretch the trailer so this isn't going to work out.
I called the office and said "You aren't going to believe this one...".
After about another 30 minutes they call me back and say the broker for this load neglected to inform them of the length. Ummm, ok, so what now? They sent me to another houston location to pick up some steel forgings going to a mining equipment manufacturer in Milwaukee. Cool, I'll get back to Wisconsin to get my paycheck this week!
After I get loaded, by this time it's 1:30 in the PM, I call the office and Dennis tells me this needs to be in Milwaukee "first thing Friday morning". I just grumble "Friday morning, huh?" He says "Well, it's Wednesday, ummm, as long as it's there before noon I'll be happy". He figured out I wasn't gonna be there at 8AM without me having to actually spell it out for him.
I'm just outside of Texarkana now. Had a great BBQ sandwich and a few beers. I should make Milwaukee by around 10 AM Friday. I really didn't wanna go to Utah anyway.
