After getting stuck in the mud at a delivery in Ennis, TX yesterday and paying a wrecker $200 to pull me out, I was hoping today would go better. No such luck. The day started out with my arriving at the airport fire station in Austin, right on time, to deliver their supplies. It took over an hour for them to get a forklift there to start the unloading. This caused me to be running late for Houston.
I decided to try a short cut to Houston, only to find it under construction. No help there. I finally arrive in Houston and even after my calling them yesterday to confirm my arrival, what I had on for them, and what kind of trailer I was pulling, they still didn't have the equipment needed to unload their machines. Grrrrr.
After screwing around for three hours, they finally managed to get their machines off my trailer, but by this time it was too late for me to pick up my next load so I have to wait until tomorrow. I am picking up a load of pipe here in Houston going to Utah. I have to go by a lumber yard and pick up some 2x4s and some 4x4s to use on the load, as well as going by a welding shop to pick up some pipe stakes for the load. What a royal pain.
Luckily the welding shop isn't too far from where I am loading and I am sure I can find a lumber yard somewhere between here and there. In the meantime I get to rest some. It just means I'll have to run a bit harder to make the Utah delivery on Friday. I really hate running through Colorado and avoid it when I can, but it's going to be the fastest route to that part of Utah from here.
Oh yeah, the final straw for the day....When I arrived at the truckstop I promptly locked my keys in the truck. The perfect end to the day. It took me better than an hour to get back in using a coat hanger. I have been meaning to get that spare key made. I suppose I will tomorrow. Never know when I might get another case of dumbass.
