A bunch of useless crap

I parked my rig in this truckstop on the KY/TN line and went inside for some dinner. After eating I decided to wander into the tv lounge and sit and knit a while while watching whatever was playing on the wide screen tv.

I found a comfortable chair, took my knitting out of my backpack, and started working on it. After a minute or so an older guy mentioned that he used to "do that" when he was younger and that his mother had taught him. Another driver then made a comment and asked what I was making. The next thing I knew a half a dozen drivers had gathered around checking it, wanting to touch the yarn, and wanted to see how it was done.

The whole thing had such a comical feel to it, a bunch of burly, hardened truckers standing around in the truckstop tv lounge talking about knitting. One guy even said that "I do that too" and went out to his truck to grab his work. He was slightly mistaken in that what he brought back in to show everyone was actually crochet, not knitting, but close enough. The guys all checked his stuff out too and then refocused on my cabled scarf. They were fascinated by the cables, "the pattern" as they called it, and weren't satisfied until I got to a cable row and showed them how it was done.

One guy mentioned that he had tried it once but kept poking his fingers with the needles and finally gave up. I cracked up at that one. After a few minutes I decided that if I wanted to actually get any knitting done I'd just have to return to my truck. As I am feeling like I'm running a low grade fever I really needed to get back here and take some Ibuprofen anyway so I excused myself, packed everything up, and returned to my rig.

I couldn't help but chuckle a bit about the scene I had just left. It was like one of those absurd scenes in a sitcom that you'd say "Yeah right, like that would ever happen". Who knows, maybe the stores will get a sudden run of truckers buying yarn and needles LOL

Thats hilarious. Yet strange as it is that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Maybe you could customize your truck by knitting yourself some apricot colored mud flaps?

Hope that fever stays that way and exits fast.

And keep on knitting!
