Taking the weekend off to try and get over a nasty bug. Been sick as a dog since Monday and just couldn't keep going. Flu I suppose. I'm in a cheap motel with enough food and supplies to get me through the weekend. I don't want to have to go out unless I have no choice. My ribs are sore from coughing, my body aches in general, and my head is so plugged everything sounds like I'm under water. But, I do feel a tad better today than I have all week so I guess I'm on the mend....

This has been "one of those days". I got ready to roll this morning and the amber beacons I have to use when pulling over-size blew a fuse. Had to wait for road service to come and repair the problem. At that point it was too late to go anywhere. I had ripped a few DVDs and was in the process of renaming some of the files. Somehow while renaming one of them I accidentally selected ALL of the movie files and they all wound up with the same name. ARGH! Late this afternoon I decided t take a ...

After my truck being in the shop all week I had an odd assignment this morning. I had to go over to the fairgrounds and act as an unloading dock for trucks going in there. They are having an agriculture/construction equipment show there next week and had a lot of equipment coming in on flatbed type trailers. The thing they didn't have was a ramp to unload such trailers. I was there, with a beaver tail trailer (ramps on the back) so they could back to my trailer, drive the equipment from t...

Holy shit! Damn near got run down by a car tonight. I'm still burning off the adrenaline. I was walking across the street from my motel to get some beer when a car came tearing ass around a corner, tires squealing, ass end fishtailing, and heading straight for me. I dodged out of the way but my left hand came down on the hood of the car as I was getting out of it's path. I swear, if I could have got my hands on that driver I would be on my way to jail for homicide. ...

Being on the road sometimes requires finding alternative ways of doing things that are simply done at home. Blending/mixing things is one of those tasks. It just isn't practical to carry an electric blender in the truck. I recently bought a Blender Bottle and am finding it really handy. Basically it's a plastic shaker bottle with a stainless steel wire ball inside that acts like a whisk when the bottle is shaken. I am using it to make protein shakes. The first shake I tried was 8 o...

After running harder than I like to get a stretch trailer back here from Houston I have a bit of time off. The boss knew what I had to do to get it done and scheduled my next load to let me get some much needed rest. I dropped the trailer at the yard around 11:00 PM Wednesday night after leaving Houston around 4:40 Tuesday afternoon. I was beat. My next load is a six stop load, the first of which is only about 5 hours from here, for Monday, so I have pretty much been off Thursday and most ...

The past several weeks have just been crazy at work. I have had very little in the way of down time as a result. Also, my weight loss/fitness progress has really slowed as well (down 21 lbs at this point). I am still counting calories and doing well there, but just haven't had the time to get out and do much walking or jogging. I am currently sitting just outside of Houston and will be delivering a fire truck to the port there in the morning. I then have to scramble to get back to Wiscons...

On January 9th I had my bi-annual D.O.T. physical and failed due to high blood pressure readings. As a result I wish ony issued a 90 day medical card, which expires on April 9th. Yesterday I finally got around to seeing a doctor for a follow up. My blood pressure was still high. As I haven't had a real physical in years and am now 50 years old the doc gave me a full physical including blood work. Barring the results of the lab work next week he proclaimed me in reasonably good health with...

I've had an iPad tablet for some time now and, while I really like it I have often found it limiting in some ways. I decided to give an Android tablet a try so yesterday I picked up an Asus TF101 Transformer tablet.  First off, it's quite a bit less expensive than the iPad. $399 for a 32GB tablet. It is currently running Honeycomb (3.2.1) but the Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) upgrade should be any time now. It's a little bigger than the iPad, and slightly heavier. I really like...

I hauled an over-weight military truck from Wisconsin to Long Beach, California and delivered it on Friday. The trip wasn't without issues. I had high winds across Wyoming and a snowstorm in Utah. My trailer developed electrical problems in California but I managed to get the load delivered before putting it in a shop to be repaired. Once the trailer was repaired in Carson I made my way up to Ontario, CA to the truck stop. It was only a 46 mile ride but thanks to LA traffic it took 2 1/2 ...

After a great deal of driving and trying to work my way through some terrible traffic, a couple of accident delays, and road construction, and delivering two stops, I finally pulled into a truckstop in Seymour, Indiana. There just happens to be a bar and grill called Brewskies about a block down the service road from the truckstop. I accidentally walked in to Brewskies. Since I was there anyway I decided to have a seat at the bar. I ordered a beer, lit up a pipe, and relaxed for a bit. Dur...

I am spending a couple of days laid over in North Carolina, in the Greensboro/Winston Salem area. The final stop on this last load was a small excavator. I delivered it on Tuesday and now have to wait around until Thursday to pick it up again and take it back to the factory in Wisconsin. As I have had a terrible backache for the past week this layover is a welcome chance to rest and try and get my back to ease up a bit before I have to hit the road again. I have had to use my cane the past co...
