A bunch of useless crap

After my truck being in the shop all week I had an odd assignment this morning. I had to go over to the fairgrounds and act as an unloading dock for trucks going in there. They are having an agriculture/construction equipment show there next week and had a lot of equipment coming in on flatbed type trailers.

The thing they didn't have was a ramp to unload such trailers. I was there, with a beaver tail trailer (ramps on the back) so they could back to my trailer, drive the equipment from their trailer to mine, then I lower the ramps so they can drive the equipment down to the ground.

For the most part it was pretty boring, but I was getting paid (well) by the hour to do it.

That took up most of my day. When I finally got back to the yard I swapped trailers and loaded my load out. Four stops, starting at Whiteman Air Force base in Missouri and winding up in Louisiana where, when empty I will load a bulldozer coming back up to Wisconsin.

I finally got done working around 7:00 PM. It was a long day. I got a room at the local motel, bought some beer from the gas station across the street, and ordered a pizza. I am now fed, buzzed, and feeling really tired from the busy day.

On the plus side my motel room neighbor is a pretty attractive woman 11 years my junior with whom I have been enjoying some good conversation. We actually have a lot in common. If i hadn't committed to a life without complications several years ago I might just find myself interested.

But, romantic relationships, even brief ones, are complications, so I'll be happy with some interesting conversation.

Ah, for the blowing skirt in spring time!  That is one commitment I would be lousy at keeping.

I know what you mean, but it's one that is well worth keeping. My past life was full of complications. I really enjoy keeping things simple these days. Yeah, there are sacrifices. but in the long run they are worth it to me.

Thanks. I bought it a couple of winters ago at a truck stop that sells the Minnetonka stuff. It's sheepskin and very warm.
