A bunch of useless crap
Published on July 10, 2011 By MasonM In Blogging

I am hanging out in a motel in Kentucky. I had planned on delivering my load here on Thursday afternoon but just outside of Nashville the clutch went out in my truck and I had to put it in a garage.

While it was there they discovered that the rear main seal was leaking, and there was also a bad u-joint. Almost $4,000 worth of repairs later I was able to get back on the road yesterday (Saturday) afternoon. Glad I didn't have to pay for those repairs.

I got up here around 4:00 yesterday afternoon and checked into a cheap motel (Motel 6) to hang out until I can deliver on Monday morning.

It is hotter than blazes out there today. They are calling for a heat index this afternoon of 109 degrees. I like the heat a lot better than I like the cold, no doubt, but when it's this hot it is better to just remain in the air conditioning and relax.

As the motel has a laundry I am catching up on some laundry while I am here. At least I'll be able to start the week with plenty of clean clothes.

I am hoping this down time will give my back a chance to heal up some, so I am alternating between lying down, sitting, and walking around a bit. I kind of wish I had swim trunks with me, I would maybe go to the motel pool for a bit just to take the weight off my back for a while. I remember the pool therapy after my back surgery, and it did really help.

There are a few stores close by, so maybe I'll go see if I can obtain some inexpensive swim trunks before it gets even hotter outside. I don't want to drive anywhere right now so I'll have to walk. Luckily I should only have to do to the shopping center across the road.

Now that I think of it, I'll go and do that now while my clothes are in the dryer.

Never happen!

Actually, none of the stores across the road sell swim trunks, and I (my back rather) didn't feel like walking the 1/2 mile to Wal Mart. I'll just have to skip the pool.

Too bad - that speedo picture would make the viral list of the internet!

I can see you counting down the days until August and the new truck!  Here's hoping and praying that you get a good one!

Thanks. Hopefully the new truck will be an improvement, but if there is one thing I know about trucks it's that they break.

but if there is one thing I know about trucks it's that they break.

That goes to every single item capitalist build. If we actually made something that lasts (which we could easily do) the system would collapse. Items are actually getting crappier and crappier which just shows me how close the system is to complete failure.

Sorry to stray off topic. What kind of truck are you getting? You can take over for the shuttle program with this baby. The launch might relieve your back pain as well

Yes, you're quite right. Those old Soviet built vehicles were sooo much better.

I drive an '06 Western Star, and will be getting a new one sometime around August. Considering my current truck has a tad over 685,000 miles on it, and it was the original clutch, I would say it held up quite nicely. We do a lot of heavy haul which puts a tremendous amount of wear on a truck.

Thanks. I keep meaning to pick one up but somehow never seem to get around to it. I'll try and make a point of it soon.

Good to "hear" from you. Hope everything is ok your way. I know those fires have been a real problem.
