A bunch of useless crap

I seem to have come down with a head and chest cold. Last night, after checking into a motel in Ogden, UT, I visited the saloon next door for a couple of cold ones and to watch football. I felt ok when I got there, but as the night went on I started to cough a bit and to feel a bit under the weather.

By the time I left and returned to my room I was feeling a bit crappy and was coughing quite a bit. I wound up spending most of the night coughing instead of sleeping.

This morning my head was plugged up, as well as my chest. A damn cold. Wonderful. There are few things as miserable as getting sick out on the road. I checked in with dispatch to see if he had any likely leads on a load. He said he didn't, so I told him I was going to go pick up some cold medicine and go back to bed and would talk to him tomorrow.

I went over to the truck stop and picked up some Mucinex DH. Nothing on the package said anything about drowsiness but the stuff sure as hell made me drowsy. I spent most of the day under the blankets alternating between being cold and being hot. A bit odd really as I don't believe I am running a fever at all.

I tried the Mucinex because I thought it would help with the cough, which it didn't, without making me sleepy, which it did. May as well have just taken Nyquil instead. At least that stuff works.

I really fracking hate getting sick on the road but what can you do? These things happen.

Back to bed.

Just got over one myself (but I was not on the road).  My wife came down with Bronchitis (she gave me the cold).  She uses Mucinex D (the d is for suedo ephedrine).  Just for the mucous.  But she uses the Nyquil for the cough.

best of luck beating the bug.  Hopefully a days rest will get you most of the way there.

Thanks. Glad you got over yours.

I usually start taking Zinc the minute I feel that scratchy throat.  It doesn't get rid of the cold but shortens it to 3 days and the symptoms are not as severe.

Feeling better today?  Sure hope so.  The weather has just been so unsettled everywhere.  Be safe out there.  Is is still only January!

Not really. Still in the grips of this lousy cold. Am currently settled in at a hotel with some Gatorade, Nyquil, and warm blankets. Oh yeah, and plenty of tissues.

Sorry to read you are still laid low!  Do you get a flu shot when they are offered?  It sucks to feel so puny.

Thanks. I am on the far side of the bug now. A couple of more days and I should be in good shape. No, I don't do the flu shot thing, never have, but then again it wouldn't have helped here as it was just a cold and not the flu.

Yeah, it sucks to be sick but then that's why they call it being sick.
