A bunch of useless crap

I've been holed up in a motel on the South side of Nashville for three nights now. Tomorrow morning I'll head on my way once again.

Tonight I wandered over to the Hooters next to the motel for a few beers and something to eat. The inside area was non-smoking so I took over a table out on the patio. I chose one that was under cover as the sun had not yet set and was very hot.

My server out there was a young lady who expressed an interest in my pipes, ebook reader, and tablet computer. She seemed a bit blown away by the fact that I was watching The Three Stooges on my little Archos tablet.

I had some good conversation with her in between her duties and I did notice that whenever she had a few extra minutes she came over to hang out at my table to chat. Now, I know I am an old fart with a greying beard and something of a beer belly so I had no illusions about this 20-something being physically attracted to me in any way. I figured that either she knew us old farts tip better when young ladies spend a bit of time chatting with them, or possibly she just found the conversation interesting enough to come back for more. I can carry on an intelligent conversation with just about anyone, and she was no dummy.

Either one was ok with me as I was a bit bored and enjoyed the company.

Between conversations I spent my time enjoying a few bowls of pipe tobacco, reading a book, and watching the younger folks play volleyball out in the sandpit built for that purpose.

All in all I have to say that it was a pleasant and relaxing evening.

And you tipped well.  You said she was intelligent!

But then she also probably saw you as an interesting customer who was not on the make.  I am sure she gets a ton of customers who are on the make all the time, and it was probably a relaxing time for her to be able to talk to someone who had something other than putting a move on her.

I honestly hadn't thought of that but it's quite possible.
