Last night I went into the truckstop and was amazed to find that Stevie Nicks happened to be there. Wow. I managed to get to talk with her for a bit and she invited me to join her for dinner.
We had some great conversation over not so great food. About the time we had finished eating, one of her songs, Sorcer, began playing over the sound system. I commented that it must be kind of strange to be in a place and hear yourself singing in the background. It was about that time that the alarm went off and it was time for me to get up and start my day.
I finally got the Mack truck picked up this morning and was able to begin the journey up to WI. Since I don't have to deliver the Mack until Saturday I don't need to be in too much of a rush to get up there. I hit Birmingham just about time for rush hour to start so I pulled into the truckstop on the north end of town and decided to call it a day and let the idiots do their thing.
While it's still warm the breeze here is noticeably cooler than it was in Florida this morning. I suspect that today may well be the last day I'll be wearing shorts for a little while as it's much cooler north of here. Sadly, Summer just can't last forever.
The trucking channel on Sirius let us know today that 10/21 - 10/28 there is going to be a nationwide 'safety' blitz. According to the Feds they are going to be focused on fatigued truckers, drivers of both big rigs and four wheelers who aren't wearing seat belts, and four wheelers driving unsafely around big rigs. Of course the reality will be that they will be focusing on the big rigs and will pay little to no attention to the four wheelers at all. That's the way it always happens. Four wheeler tickets simply don't generate the same levels of revenue that tickets to truckers generate. After all, it isn't really about safety, it's about cash money.
Oh well, they're going to do what they want to do and there really isn't anything we can do about it.
