Around lunch time today I was sitting at the counter in a truckstop. I had finished eating and was spending a few minutes knitting to unwind a bit before moving on. The driver next to me started up a conversation with me. I could tell by the look in his eyes that he intended to amuse himself by messing with me.
Him: "Whatcha making? A dress?"
Me: "Any idiot can see it's a scarf."
Him: "Oh yeah, ok. Did your mommy teach you how to do that?"
I decided to mess with him a little.
Me: "What? Knit? No, it's part of my court ordered anger management therapy."
Him: "Anger management? What did you do?"
Me: "I got arrested because I lost my temper on a guy in a truckstop a few months back. I feel kinda bad about it, I mean he was a real jerk and all, but he really didn't deserve to lay in a hospital for six weeks like that."
The guy sitting across from me had a twinkle in his eyes that told me he knew I was messing with the guy, but he didn't say a word.
Him: "oh, uh, ok. So the judge made you learn to knit?"
Me: "Yeah, like I said, anger management."
Him: "Uh, does it help?"
Me "It helps...a little."
He never said anything else and left as soon as he got his food order.
The guy across from me then spoke up.
Guy: "You're a real bulllshit artist aren't you?" He was grinning.
Me: "Who? Me?" also with a big grin.
Guy: "That was pretty slick, I thought there was gonna be trouble for a minute there."
Me: "Nah, he wasn't smart enough to be any real trouble."
We both had a bit of a chuckle and the conversation drifted on to other topics.
