A bunch of useless crap

Things are starting to cool off a bit. It seems like it's a month early, but that's the way the weather can be. When I awoke this morning in Southern KY it was downright chilly. It was also very, very foggy which made the first 100 miles or so of my day rather slow going.

I've made contact with both delivery points and have set up times for delivery. Saturday morning in WI and Monday morning in Minneapolis. After delivering the WI stop I'll make my way to the yard so I can get my paperwork turned in as I would like to get paid next Friday.

Sunday I'll make my way towards Minneapolis for the Monday delivery. As much as I hate fighting Monday morning traffic around any large city, I'll have to bite the bullet and do so as there isn't any good place to park near the delivery point.

When I left the house this time I grabbed my jacket and brought it with me. I have no idea why I did this as I normally don't start carrying it until around the first of October. WIth the cooler temps in the Northern states I'm glad I did.

I just finished my breakfast and it's time to get back on the road. I want to make it to Northern IL before shutting down tonight and still have a pretty long way to go. I'm taking a slightly longer route to avoid going through the Chicago area as Friday afternoon traffic around there is just miserable. While it's a little farther it should actually save me quite a bit of time.

I liked this Mason. I know it's your job and it may seem mundane to you but it's interesting to us folk who stay in one place. keep it up!

Ditto on this!

Good thing you did bring that jacket with you! Where's Socrates? Good to hear from you and drive safe!

Still almost summer here.  But the nicer part of summer, with temps in the low 80s!

Same over here, it is getting cooler in the evenings and mornings.

What news on Socrates, I miss hearing about him! Is he loose in the cab when you drive? Is he behaving himself?

ANd ditto to what Shovel says, your life and trips are very interesting!

Thank you. That's high praise coming from such a skilled writer. Yes, it's all pretty mundane for me and frankly I've never understood why anyone would be interested in reading about it. But I'm happy someone finds it worth their time to do so.

Thank you. Yes, I'm glad I thought to bring it along. I always keep a dirty old work jacket in the truck, but one doesn't want to wear something like except when actually doing dirty work.

At the moment Socrates is going bananas trying to catch a fly that managed to get inside the truck. He's bouncing off the walls trying to get his paws on it.

Sounds nice. Was still pretty warm (read hot) down in Fla, but it should start cooling off soon. I was a bit surprised when I saw the weather reports for the Northern MidWestern states with forecast highs in the 40s. brrrrrr

Yep, Socrates has the run of the truck with the exception of the area around the pedals. I've trained him, with the aid of a squirt bottle, to stay clear of the pedals while I'm driving. Otherwise he pretty much goes where he pleases.

The only time it's a problem is when I'm in heavy traffic and he decides he wants to be petted and jumps onto my chest. He can be pretty stubborn about wanting to be petted and sometimes I'll have to put him down two or three times before he gets the idea that it's not a good time for it. If traffic is light I'll allow him to remain there and show him the requested attention until he gets bored with it and goes back to playing with his toys or napping.

He does behave himself for the most part and spends a great deal of our traveling time sleeping on my armrest so that he can snuggle behind my arm. He's found that if he lays well to the rear of the armrest I have room for my arm and he can still sleep comfortably.

Yep, heading your way and glad I brought the jacket.

Thank you.

I've made it to Northern IL and will spend the night here. I'm only about 1.5 hours from Monroe. I'll get an early start so I can be there around 7:30 in the morning.

I just found out earlier that the annual DOT inspection for my truck expires today so I have to get this stop off and get to the yard before our garage closes at noon so I can get the truck inspected. It would really suck to get inspected at a weigh station and have them discover the inspection had expired. Big fine.

It's a little over 2.5 hours to the yard from this first stop so I'll have to be stepping lively tomorrow to get everything done on schedule.

This also gives me a good excuse for going by the yard as I had already planned to do anyway.

You will make it!

And I am pissed I did not think of Shovel's comment!
