I stopped here in Gallup, NM to enjoy brunch before making my way across the state. While I was sitting at the counter enjoying my food this younger driver who was sitting there started a conversation with me. It wasn't long before he began bad mouthing the indian population of the area. Many of the things he said would have been offensive to anyone with even a modicum of civility about them. And all of his comments were said within earshot of our waitress who happened to be Navaho and a very sweet natured lady.
Well, I let him go on for a couple of minutes trying not to show my growing anger. I guess because I look every bit as white as himself he thought I would somehow empathize with him. Wrong. I finally informed him that my paternal grandmother just happened to be full blooded Apache and there was never a sweeter woman you ever care to meet, my paternal grandfather was half Cherokee, and that I really didn't think too highly of racist white trash scum who bad mouthed an entire group of people they knew absolutely nothing about. I also mentioned that if he didn't shut his yap I'd shut it for him.
He immediately started back pedaling, saying "Well, I didn't mean all indians, just the ones you see out here that are always trying to sell you their junk jewelry and stuff instead of working for a living..." I told him that if I heard one more word out of his mouth that wasn't an outright apology I was going to stomp a mudhole in his ass right there in front of everyone.
He muttered something about being sorry he tried to talk to me and quickly paid for his coffee and split. Good riddance.
The waitress never mentioned the incident but she did make a point of making sure my coffee mug remained full while I finished my meal. That poor woman was so friendly and nice there was no reason in the world she should have been subjected to that piece of shit's verbal filth.
I just don't get bigots at all. Must be some tribal instinct still strongly present in some people. Or they're just human scum.
I don't like losing my temper, ever, but sometimes some people just need a good ass whipping and I was more than ready to dish one out on this asshole.
